Westport High School
2006-2007
Westport High School serves 9-12 grades and enrollment for the 2006-07 school year was 502 students, 16.7% of which were SPED. Student population was 97.8% white. There were 40 teachers and 98.1% of core teachers were Highly Qualified.
This 2006-2007 use of the JFYNet program was, as it had been in previous years, for math remediation and ELA supplementation. We worked with five veteran teachers and one new teacher; classes were scheduled 1-2 times per week in the media lab (library). Four PC’s had been added to the media lab since the previous year. A challenge at WHS was that the school had purchased PLATO before they applied for the JFYNet program. There was hope that the JFYNet Academic Support Program could overcome a software purchase that had been costly especially because there had not been any significant oversight and integration of the program. In particular, some students had used PLATO for more than two years without any type of differentiated instruction during lab time. A contributing factor to the implementation was numerous administrative changes since the purchase of the software. After several years of trying to utilize this resource, the district has decided to adopt Class Zone and will not apply for a FY08 JFYNet Academic Support Grant.
