2006-2007
The High School of Commerce serves approximately 1,640 students in grades 9 through 12. JFYNet worked with 2 math teachers, each of them splitting the school year. Both teachers serve students who failed to pass the MCAS, often multiple times. The school identified this class as MCAS remediation. Class size ranged from 6 to 13 students and the students had class in a dedicated computer lab giving them daily access to the software and other offline resources that were part of the JFYNet Academic Support Program. One of the teachers at Commerce used the offline MCAS resources as a major part of the MCAS remediation curriculum and paired it well with the use of the Plato software.
In the past, a large number of students in this class passed the retest as compared to the rest of the school who are not participating in this class. In a comparison of the November 2005 Retest of this teacher’s class with the rest of the retest students at Commerce we had the following results:

In just two short years the former teacher used JFYNet curriculum alignments and the instructional materials to provide targeted instruction in the students’ area of greatest need. The lack of stability in the teaching staff had a negative impact on the program this school year; however, JFYNet students continue to outperform the Non-participants at Commerce.
