Southbridge High School
2007-2008
Southbridge High School was awarded a JFYNet Academic Support Grant for the 2007-2008 school year. For more information on the current implementation, please contact Ryan Camire at rcamire@jfynet.org
2006-2007
Southbridge High School serves approximately 400 students in grades 9 through 12. During 2005-2006 we reported that “overall, the program was not used regularly by the teachers at Southbridge despite receiving the full compliment of the JFYNet Academic Support Program services.” JFYNet considered not awarding the grant this school year; however, it was so well written that a meeting was scheduled to discuss their goals. It was clear at that meeting that a number of changes had been made and we are happy to report that with changes in administration, teaching and technology, there has been a complete rededication to the JFYNet program during the 2006-2007 school year.
JFYNet worked with 5 math teachers this year in a variety of areas. These teachers utilized the program in their MCAS, algebra, geometry, and statistics classes. The classes ranged from the remediation level to the honors level. The variety of classes allowed the teachers to take advantage of both types of our alignments, MCAS Express and textbook alignments. Teachers bring their classes to a computer lab that has approximately 40 new computers. The availability of these new computers and the computer lab allowed for teachers to depend on our program and not be discouraged by equipment failures that sometimes occur with older hardware. The rededication to make the JFYNet program a success by the administrators and teachers at Southbridge High School has earned them a JFYNet Achievement Award in May of 2007.
