Randolph - Randolph High School (RHS)

2007-2008
RHS was awarded a JFYNet Academic Support Grant for the 2007-2008 school year. For more information on the current implementation, please contact Jeanne Chiang at jchiang@jfynet.org

2006-2007
Randolph High School’s student enrollment in the 2006-07 school year was 925. The student population is 16.4% SPED and 22.9% white (54.5% black). For 45.1% of students, English was their second language. There were a total of 71 teachers and 90.2% of core teachers are Highly Qualified.

The primary user of the JFYNet program was a MCAS math teacher, who brought her six classes into the lab about once per week. This was the second year that this teacher had worked with JFYNet. As with any implementation, the success of the program is centered on the teacher – and in this case, this was a model teacher. She always made sure that the materials being used were relevant to class work and held students accountable. She allowed PLATO to present and review content, but she made it her responsibility to give direct instruction and encouragement. RHS’s implementation was aided by the fact that the technology department was able to set up a newer lab. The original scope of the grant was also to include ELL use and while JFYNet trained the ELL department, their lab was not ready in time for the department to use the program in any significant way. As of July, the ELL lab was ready and being utilized by the summer program.
