Methuen High School
2007-2008
Methuen High School has been a partner with JFYNet for 5 years and has been awarded a JFYNet Academic Support Grant for the 2007-2008 school year. For more information on the current implementation, please contact Peter Nelson at pnelson@jfynet.org
2006-2007
MHS has a population of 2,002 students in grades 9-12. White students are 72% of the student body, Hispanics are 22.1%, Asians are 3.4%, and African Americans are 1.9%. Students from low-income families are 27.8% of the population.
MHS had 289 students actively participate in the program. Three computer labs were available for the students to use, and they attended these labs with their teachers as part of their classes (which ranged in size from about 20 to 30 students.) Both ELA and math MCAS Express curricula were used. ELA was the primary focus in the beginning of the year, followed by math later in the year. Methuen staff are very involved in the curriculum alignments and clearly understand the value of using the JFYNet program as a differentiated instructional tool. In addition to 10th grade students, students who were retesting also participated. For the March math retest, 21 of 29 students passed and one third of those students achieved a score of 230 or better.
Results from the spring 2006 MCAS test administration were also favorable and we were able to work with the Methuen staff and students to move many students from failing to needs improvement and proficient.
