2006-2007
During the 2006-2007 school year, the curriculum focus was on mastering the JFYNet’s MCAS Express program for math. All special education teachers continued to receive just-in-time training as appropriate and they were able to use the training to coordinate specific lessons for their students to work on in the math lab that aligned with classroom instruction. The math lab is staffed by a full-time tutor. AMS exhibits many characteristics of a successful program implementation. The principal and assistant principal are actively involved with supporting teachers in their use of the lab and created a schedule that supports the work. Everyone is very receptive to ideas for improvement. The math lab tutor is always available to help students when they have questions, coordinates lessons with their teachers, and provides encouragement through a bulletin board that shows student progress. During the 2006-2007 school year, in addition to work in the math lab, Site Coordinator Peter Nelson also worked in a regular math classroom and co-taught with the teacher using Smart Board technology. A sample of the successful implementation strategies were featured site in the JFYNet Webinar and a short video can be viewed here.

In December of 2006, tutor, Sam Bragg and JFYNet Site Coordinator, Peter Nelson were interviewed on Amesbury Educates, a cable show that highlights education in Amesbury. The program is hosted by Peter Hoyt, Principal at the Charles C. Cashman Elementary School in Amesbury. This link will take you to a video of the program that initially was cablecast on December 2006. The name of the program is Amesbury Educates and it was Program #3.

AMS received a second JFYNet Achievement Award May 2007 for their continued outstanding efforts to support student achievement.
